IIT JAM
IIT-JAM (Joint Admission Test for M.Sc.) is an entrance exam for admission to M.Sc. programs at the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in India. It is held annually and is open to candidates who have completed a Bachelor’s degree in the relevant field. The test covers various subjects including Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biological Sciences, and Geology. The test is conducted in online mode and the results are usually announced in April. Candidates who qualify the test are then eligible for admission to the M.Sc. programs at the participating institutes.
IIT-JAM Exam pattern and marking scheme
Exam pattern:
The exam is conducted in online mode.
The duration of the exam is 3 hours.
The exam consists of multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and numerical answer type (NAT) questions.
There are a total of 60 questions in the exam, divided into three sections.
Section 1 contains 10 questions of one mark each.
Section 2 contains 20 questions of two marks each.
Section 3 contains 30 questions of three marks each.
1/3rd marks will be deducted for each wrong answer in MCQs.
No marks will be deducted for unanswered questions.
Marking scheme:
For each correct answer in MCQs, 1 or 2 or 3 marks will be awarded.
For each correct answer in NATs, 2 or 3 marks will be awarded.
For each wrong answer in MCQs, 1/3 marks will be deducted.
No marks will be deducted for unanswered questions.
